What will you do

We will start with our pick up service from the airport or terminal of Puerto Maldonado in Madre de Dios. After a brief packing of belongings, we will start the trip to the banks of the Tambopata River, from where we will begin the journey to the lodge or lodge where we will spend two nights. On the third day we will start the trip to the second lodge very close to Sandoval Lake.

During these 4 days we will be provided with food. Also with the necessary equipment to better appreciate the animals, insects and even some fish throughout the adventure. It is recommended to have sunscreen and plenty of mosquito repellent. In addition, it will be necessary to wear comfortable and loose clothing to avoid heat waves.

It is also important to bring a camera or have your cell phone camera ready. The landscapes that will be seen throughout the 4 days are really beautiful. You will be able to see animals such as parrots, macaws, caimans and a great variety of insects. You can also observe mammals such as some varieties of monkeys and friendly sea lions. This tour is an incredible adventure for wildlife lovers, as all the biodiversity you will see will be purely in the wild.


Itinerary

Day 1 - Welcome

  • Upon arrival in Puerto Maldonado we will be ready to pick you up.
  • The first destination will be a brief pass through offices so you can organize your luggage and take only what you need.
  • Afterwards, you will take a bus ride to the Tambopata River port.
  • The bus ride to the port will take approximately 2 hours.
  • The boat trip will be to our first lodge. There, we will have our first lunch, and we will also be able to settle into our rooms.
  • In the afternoon, you can make the first walk in the direction of the 40-meter tower that serves as a bird observatory.
  • It is also possible to appreciate the grandeur of the place.
  • In the evening, we will take a night walk with the guide. Together with him we will start a walk to observe the activity of some nocturnal animals.

Day 2 - Macaw Clay Licks

  • After spending the night at our lodge, we will have to get up early. The day will start at 4:30 in the morning.
  • The destination of the second day is the Macaw Clay Lick, considered the largest in the world.
  • The trip is done by boat for approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes.
  • During this boat trip it is possible to see capybaras or ronsocos, as they are known in Peru, along the river banks.
  • With a little more luck it is possible to see the feline king of the place: the jaguar.
  • The most beautiful spectacle is seen very close to the macaw clay lick, where thousands of species of parrots and macaws arrive.
  • The main reason for their visits is the minerals they obtain thanks to the clay that can be found in the clay licks.
  • Upon our return, we will have breakfast and a rest in the hammocks of the lodge.
  • After a well-deserved lunch, we will have a tour of the place. We will see all the variety of plants and some other animals.
  • We will be able to recognize medicinal herbs and large trees.
  • In the evening we will enjoy dinner and also have the option to have a walk or just rest.

Day 3 - Sandoval Lake

  • After breakfast at the lodge, we will have to return to Puerto Maldonado.
  • So, we will have to take a boat trip and then by land to the offices, where the luggage was left.
  • There you will be able to arrange your luggage again and take only what is necessary.
  • After this brief stop, we will have to go to the port Capitania
  • We will start a new boat trip, but this time on the Madre de Dios River.
  • The destination of this boat trip will be the Sandoval Lake. The approximate travel time is 45 minutes.
  • The trip will be full of surprises, we will be able to appreciate on the route, birds, monkeys, a great variety of flora and much more.
  • Upon arrival at Sandoval Lake, we will change transportation. We will use a rowing boat. 
  • In this tour, we will navigate the lake in search of birds such as the cormorant, anhingas and even the hoatzien.
  • We can also meet the friendly sea lions.
  • At night, it is recommended to go caiman watching. The caimans are characterized by their red eyes that contrast with the lights of the flashlight.
  • This last night will be spent at the lodge, close to Sandoval Lake.

Day 4

  • This day we will start our return trip. This last day will start with a delicious breakfast.
  • After breakfast we will start with the return trip, by the same route we arrived.
  • We will finish our services once you pick up your belongings from the office.
