Sailing the waters of Lake Titicaca is truly a new experience. This tour of the Uros Islands allows us to learn more about an ancient tradition that endures to this day. The inhabitants of these islands use aquatic plants known as reeds. The reeds are used to build the floating islands of the Uros, sometimes as food and other times to make rafts with multiple shapes. What will you do

The tour begins with transportation from the hotels of the people who have booked. This pick-up will be coordinated with the necessary advance notice and everyone must wait with their belongings ready. After that we will begin the trip to the port of Puno. There the boat for the trip will be waiting for us. Once we are all ready with the safety equipment, we will begin the trip to the Uros Islands in Lake Titicaca.

The Uros Islands are 7 kilometers away. We will sail on the motor boat for 30 minutes until we reach our first island. This first place will help us learn more about the tradition acquired from the past of the Uros, who, in reality, were an ancient ethnic group, who inherited this way of life to their descendants until today. The cattails, the protagonists, because thanks to their composition they allow several artificial islands to float carrying large amounts of weight without any problem.

In reality, there are more than 90 islands since an entire community lives this way. During this tour we will get to know the tourist destinations of the place. For this reason, some residents will explain to us in detail the entire composition and time it takes to carry out these constructions. We will also have the opportunity to sail in reed boats and visit the trading centers. There we will see restaurants, trout farms, and sales of snacks and drinks. After visiting all these places, we will begin the return trip.


Itinerary

  • The trip by land transportation will start from the hotels and then we will make the trip to the port of Puno.
  • At the port of Puno we will board our maritime transport.
  • This transport will have life jackets and an expert driver.
  • The boat trip will take 30 minutes.
  • During the trip we will see the beautiful landscapes that Lake Titicaca offers.
  • Also, we will have the opportunity to learn more about the local birds.
  • Upon arriving at the Uros Island we will learn about each of the details that make it possible for these islands to stay afloat.

Can I swim in Lake Titicaca?

It is possible, but for this it is necessary to go to the indicated places. These places are known as the Titicaca Beaches. During the tour to the Uros Islands it is not possible to access the lake, in fact it can be dangerous due to the abundant presence of algae and the cattail itself.
