What will you do

The adventure will begin with the departure from Cusco from minutes before 5:00 in the morning. Depending on the case and availability, we will arrive at one of the train stations. From one of the stations we will continue the trip to Chachabamba, which is located at kilometer 104. At this point we will descend and start the walk. On the way, our first destination will be the Inca site of Chachabamba, after more than 3 hours of walking we will reach Wiñayhuayna. We will have lunch and continue until we reach Inti Punku and see Machu Picchu from its main access. The first day we will only get to visit the upper platforms. The next day the visit to Machu Picchu is made from 6:00 in the morning. After the tour of the Inca citadel, we return to Cusco.


Itinerary

Day 1

  • During the night before the day of departure, a briefing is held for all those who do the tour.
  • On the day of the tour, the activities begin at 5:00 in the morning, at which time we will leave in the direction of the train station.
  • The train in which we leave will be in the Expedition. During the outbound route, we will descend at kilometer 104 of the train lines between Ollantaytambo or Machu Picchu Pueblo or Aguas Calientes.
  • At kilometer 104, is Chachabamba. Place where we will all record our data.
  • We will get our belongings ready and start the walk.
  • During the walk it is possible to visit the Inca archaeological site of Chachabamba and Wiñayhuayna.
  • Lunch will be distributed, it is a box lunch. You can also ask for vegetarian service.
  • By averaging 4 in the afternoon, we will be arriving at Inti Punku. Place that grants an incredible view of Machu Picchu.
  • Continue with the descent to the Guardian's House and you can take postcard photos during sunset.
  • After that we will walk down to Aguas Calientes or we could board the ecological bus (not included in the tour).
  • Before sleeping, it is possible to visit the thermal baths, have dinner or do some night walks.

Day 2

  • It will be essential to eat breakfast. In the hotels that have this service, you can access continental or buffet breakfasts.
  • It is possible to do the route on foot or by ecological buses.
  • Once we enter Machu Picchu together with our guide we will be able to tour the Inca citadel. One option is to access the Huayna Picchu ticket in an extra way.
  • Together with the guide we will enter the citadel. The tour can take 3 hours.
  • The return to Aguas Calientes can be by bus or on foot.
  • Once in this small district, you can take the opportunity to walk, have lunch or shop for souvenirs.
  • The train has a departure time from 4:22 p.m. Remember to arrive 30 minutes before at the station.
  • The return train will be the Expedition.
  • In Ollantaytambo the train trip ends and boarding the buses that will transport you to Cusco begins.
  • The estimated time of arrival in Cusco will be at 8:30 at night.

What to bring

  • Sunscreen along with a hat will be essential to withstand the arduous walk.
